Here are some of the pages I have found useful in my research.  Some are commercial sites which require a subscription or 'pay per view', and some are free to search.

Ancestry UK site of the popular genealogy site.  Allows hosting of your family tree, as well as searching census records, birth/marriage/death records and many others.  Mostly subscription based, but does allow some use of 'credits'

Genesreunited Has tree hosting facilities as well as record searching similar to Ancestry.  Works on a credit system for viewing records.

Family Search A service provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Contains a searchable database of transcriptions of parish records as well as other information.  Free of Charge.

FreeBMD Birth, marriage and death records for England and Wales.  You can order certificates from here.  Searching is free of charge.  Other regional BMD sites are out there.

UK BMD contains some good links here to regional BMD pages, as well as OPC records and private pages - definitely worth a browse....

National Archives  has loads of stuff, including old books, maps etc

Lan-OPC contains information from Lancashire parishes, this is quite variable, some parishes have their records accessible, others just contain info about the churches etc.  Always worth a shot.

GenUKI - more stuff!

Personal Sites.

History

Horwich Heritage - has a wealth of information on Horwich, Lancashire and the surrounding areas.  Lots of info on the 'loco' works as well as other local industries.

Lancashire Local History Federation - it does what it says on the tin!

Personal sites

Rodney Hall - Has loads of interesting stuff on here, same concept as our site, but he beat us to it!
